Be A Mentor And Help Us Empower Women Internationally
In Partnership with the Strong Women of Spicy Grove and Jamaicans Inspired
UK LAUNCH
The Overview
YMSN is proud to announce the launch of a new online mentoring programme between the UK and Jamaica that will be launching on 8th March, International Women’s day.
The Strong Women of Spicy Grove (SWOSG) is a ministry designed to empower, motivate and equip women to transform their lives, families and communities. This project is attached to a youth centre in Spicy Grove , St Marys , Jamaica
Under the leadership of Lorna Archer Stanley O.D., J.P. the ministry has grown extensively and now has a core of at least 16 women who meet twice weekly for bible study, motivational talks, sewing and craft projects.
Our aim is to support these women in gaining skills that will enable them to firstly learn through a Cooperative and then to become entrepreneurs, able to care for themselves and their families.

The Founders
Lorna Stanley Archer
Lorna Archer Stanley is a former journalist and a highly respected community worker with local and international recognition.
Lorna is recognised by educators, members of academia and the Jamaican Government. In 2004, she received a National Honour – the Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service for her work in Trench Town.
In 2013, she was honoured by the University of the West Indies, School of Education for the work and impact of the school at their Symposium entitled “Changing the Landscape of Education within under resourced Urban Schools.”
In November 2010, Lorna was invited as a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show in recognition of her hard work and dedication to the development of the inner city.
She founded the Operation Restoration Centre in Rema, Trench Town in an attempt to alleviate violence, poverty and illiteracy which exist in that community.
After operating an after-school programme for nearly three years, Lorna established the Operation Restoration Christian School (ORCS) for remedial education where she is still the Principal.
After being there for 21 years, Lorna looked for a new ‘exciting, but rural, project’ in which to immerse herself, Stanley visited fellow educator and long-time associate Grace Taylor Myers, who had recently relocated from the inner city to launch a Christian-based community-development project in Oracabessa – the Spicy Grove Youth Centre.
“Each one reach one. We just need to get out there and lend a helping hand, and that’s what I’m seeing here. The whole idea is to empower people so they can become self-sufficient and self-sustaining.”
