Whoever said that being a mother was easy especially when you are doing it alone.
My name is Fiona Small a mother of two children and the founding director of Young Mums Support Network.
This is my first blog that I have decided to write it’s personal and I feel very compelled to put it out there to the world to read.
My journey to motherhood has not been what you would call the typical one. Twelve years ago when I became pregnant with my first born child the father told me that I should terminate my pregnancy or he would have nothing to do with me or my child. He also offered to pay for a private termination. I politely declined the offer and had to come to terms with doing it alone.
Being a first time mother at the age of 24 without the father being present have to adopt society’s label of single mother or lone parent was one of the hardest things I have every had to do.
Feeling isolated, rejected, stigmatised and most of all like the biggest failure in the world are just a few words that I will use to describe what it felt like to be me.
Fast forward 12 years later at the age of 36 I have another child who was born in 2011 a very differ experience to my first I often tell people that me second pregnancy was like my first as I had the father present from the beginning all the way through.
I am on a mission to develop a co-parenting strategy between two parents who are no longer together as a couple but have a common interest which is to raise the child they both conceived in an amicable and structured fashion. I believe that this can be done and will continue to rack my brains on being the first to develop the formula that will allow it to work.
Stay tuned to this new and exciting blog I have got real life stories that would shake up any Hollywood director and it’s now time to get them out. Stay tuned I am still on my healing journey but have developed a few nuggets over the past 12 years that have shaped me into the women I am today.
Thank you for taking time out to read my blog.
