Our Focus Group Activities
YMSN has been attending coffee mornings at Griffin Primary School
We’ve been talking to the mums there to find out what kind of help or support we can offer. Due to a change in leadership we’ve been away since January but were recently invited to pick up from where we left off. So far we’ve delivered two focus groups.
The ladies at Griffin School expressed an interest in the following areas
- Returning to work
- Sewing lessons
- Stress Management
- IT skills
- Benefit Entitlement
- Self-employment
To date we’ve delivered two taster sessions. The first , a sewing class in which the women created a beautiful cushion. The second a Pilates session delivered by Tracie Rowe, a qualified fitness trainer. This was the first time our ladies had experienced a Pilates class – it was an amazing class!
Afterwards we were all so relaxed and felt like we had recharged our batteries. We will certainly be incorporating more relaxations sessions into our programmes. The ladies attending had an amazing time and everybody wanted to know when the next one will be.
Our Aims For Griffin School
- Parents will be empowered and better equipped to support their child to fulfil their potential.
- The partnership between school, family and the local community will be stronger and more effective.
- Parents will be able to encourage their child to develop as healthy citizens.
- Specific parents who could benefit from our programmes can be targeted e.g. pupil premium, EAL, academically more able.
- Women will be empowered, coached and supported in order to reach their personal goals through the use of the school premises. This could aid the marketing of the school.
- Parents will be aware of accessible services, support and resources available them so they can get back into work or education, whilst feeling financially stable. This will provide stability at home for the child.
I met with the business manager two weeks ago and have been asked to submit a proposal regarding the school house and what services we would be able to offer to their mums and the community. We are currently in talk’s with Carillion regarding giving us a revamp. We remain hopeful that YMSN will be able to develop a creative hub for mums.
Stay tuned for more information as we are planning to do a few refurbishments such as the kitchen, some paint works and set up an office for myself and the team to operate from.
More updates to follow, very exciting time for the YMSN team. 2017 has begun very well.
