Arts Course For Mums

Professional artist, Imogen Patron, has teamed up with YMSN this autumn to bring a FREE arts programme for mums. Imogen is known for 'Arts against abuse', which is a CIC she founded to raise gender-neutral awareness about the myriad forms of domestic abuse through outreach events, the arts and media.

Passionate about the environment and the sustainability of our planet, Imogen uses household waste to create sculptures of unusual and threatened species. Her interactive mobile sculptures and grassroots campaigns provide the public with imaginative ways to find solace and healing with a heavy emphasis on empowerment.

If you're a mum, have an interest in interiors or would just like to try something new, Join Imogen and YMSN for this fun and inspiring set of workshops designed to open up a world of creative potential and unlock the entrepreneur in you. Zero experience necessary!

Black History Month

This October, YMSN are celebrating Black History Month with an intergenerational Coffee Morning/Roundtable discussion with L&Q senior women residents.

They will be sharing their experiences of what life was like when they first came to the UK and what it was like when they first joined L&Q; sharing their perspectives with young mothers about life and motherhood then and now.

Kids At Risk Programme

During the summer holidays, YMSN piloted the Kids at Risk Programme. The sessions ran over 5 weeks for boys and girls who were transitioning from primary to secondary school.

Jason O’Connor, who led the sessions, is a trained MMA fighter and teaches street safety awareness in schools. He covered specific topics such as unfamiliar areas, public transport and being followed by a stranger, to ensure the children were fully equipped with the knowledge of what to do in various scenarios.

Due to the success of our pilot, we are running a second set of sessions beginning 6th October, every Weds for 6 weeks at Griffin Primary School.

Touré is enjoying the sessions, he has this far gotten some good tips which I know will be invaluable to Him as he transitions into Secondary school.

Mother of Attendee

Amiyah found the course fun, helpful and informative. She now has more confidence whilst out alone and feels she is more street wise as it has increased her ability to be aware of her surroundings. She said she would recommend this to other children who feel uncomfortable or less aware of their surroundings while walking by themself.
