Kids At Risk Programme

During the summer holidays, YMSN piloted the Kids at Risk Programme. The sessions ran over 5 weeks for boys and girls who were transitioning from primary to secondary school.

Jason O’Connor, who led the sessions, is a trained MMA fighter and teaches street safety awareness in schools. He covered specific topics such as unfamiliar areas, public transport and being followed by a stranger, to ensure the children were fully equipped with the knowledge of what to do in various scenarios.

Due to the success of our pilot, we are running a second set of sessions beginning 6th October 2021, every Wednesday at Griffin Primary School.

Touré is enjoying the sessions, he has this far gotten some good tips which I know will be invaluable to Him as he transitions into Secondary school.

Mother of Attendee

Amiyah found the course fun, helpful and informative. She now has more confidence whilst out alone and feels she is more street wise as it has increased her ability to be aware of her surroundings. She said she would recommend this to other children who feel uncomfortable or less aware of their surroundings while walking by themself.
