Young Mums Support Network were selected to be a part of the first cohort on The Funding Plus programme delivered by CAN Invest, in partnership with L&Q.

CAN Invest is a business unit of the charity CAN. Its team of consultants provide business support and coaching to build sustainable social organisations.

The Funding Plus programme, which runs over the course of 12 months, focuses on supporting the capacity of the social sector. It provides capacity building support to strengthen organisations’ ability to deliver community projects, whilst effectively navigating the challenges they and their beneficiaries are facing.

Over the course of the 12-month period, each organisation benefited from
a combination of:

  • Group peer learning
  • Expert 1:1 advisory & coaching support
  • Practical tools & templates

YMSN’s participation in the programme concluded with a very effective practice pitch to senior L&Q and CAN staff. Fiona impressed those on the panel with her precise and concise articulation of issues facing young mums in disadvantaged areas across London, and YMSN’s approach to instigating change in those communities, which is centred on listening to the issues and desires of mums.

Involvement in this programme has enabled Fiona to formulate YMSN’s social impact measurement and evaluate its services which will enable her to access the wider corporate network for future partnership opportunities. It has also provided YMSN with a structure where we are now in a position to induct and train up more practitioners to help us deliver our much needed services in 2020.
